In the synthesis of methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen), what would happen if 5% NaOH was used?

Well, let's start with the procedure for the synthesis for methyl salicylate. What do we call the product, generically, not "oil of wintergreen" or the compound name, I mean the class of organic compound.
