Partition coefficient
« on: April 07, 2008, 04:31:47 AM »
A 50ml aliquot of a 0.1M solution of a neutral drug was extracted with 2*5 ml ethyl acecate. The drug concentration was in the combined organic layers was found to be 0.38M. Calculate the parititon coefficient for this drug under these conditions.

I can work out moles of the neutral = cv/1000 and I know that p = [org]/[aq] but what do I do for this question. I am not quite getting where to go ???

Dear Mass;

Use it as your “Picture” and Hint:   "Solubility Problem

You have only to add both Extractions and re-arrange the Formula therein!

I hope it will be of help to you.

Good Luck!
