That's the structure.  I couldn't even venture a guess at the name.  Anyone know it?

Thanks a ton,

Nick

really freaking similar compounds....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalidomide

only difference is it has an extra ketone on the cyclopentyl ring...

also used to cure leprosy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenalidomide

only difference is it has an amine stuck on the benzene...

I'm leaning toward just ignoring the extra ketone group it says thalidomide has and going with thalidomide because I remembered the mystery drug was also intended to reduce nausea.

Yes, it was thalidomide.  As far as its usage, I'm pretty sure it's still allowed, just carefully restricted around those looking to have children.  (So it's definitely not used as a morning sickness reliever anymore).

Thalidomide is an FDA registered pharmaceutical for treating leprosy and also multiple myeloma. It has strict prescription rules of course to prevent women of childbearing age being prescribed the drug. Because of its potent teratogenic properties women are prohibited from even entering facilities where its manufactured (I know because I visited such a facility recently and there were signs everywhere to that effect).
