preparing 4-nitro-bromobenzoic acid from toluene
« on: April 20, 2008, 07:31:39 PM »
I was wondering how I would start to prepare 4-nitro-2-bromobenzoic acid?
Thanks.

How do nitro groups direct? What about bromine? Or the methyl group?

Can you convert methyl groups into any of the functionality in your target molecule?

Actually, this is perhaps a bit more involved than I thought yesterday. Which isomer do you mean?

4-nitro-2-bromobenzoic acid or 4-nitro-3-bromobenzoic acid?
