Cancer and Mankind
« on: May 14, 2008, 03:27:07 AM »
Cancer is one of the worst diseases of mankind today. When the body is afflicted with cancer at an early stage of life like childhood, it’s not just the body but also the mind which loses hope. It is to support and provide strength to these children that the St. Baldrick’s foundation formed. The foundation organizes events to raise funds to be used for research in childhood cancer. The event involves thousands of brave and bold volunteer children lining up to shave their heads in solidarity to cancer afflicted children, who lose their hair during treatment. These volunteers request the people for funds while asking them the question ‘How much would you pay to see me go bald?’

The event has influenced many people to come forward and help as they watch children with cancer smile bravely while millions shave their head. The foundation has been successful in collecting millions through the event which takes place year after year. Every penny collected through the event is spent on funding cancer research and treatment. Many corporate organizations have also stepped forward to help the foundation in spreading awareness about childhood cancer and its research. Funding opportunities now include Fellowships, Career Development Awards, and Research Grants.

Funds raised through St. Baldrick's events are helping some of the world's finest researchers to find cures for childhood cancer. The generosity of the corporate sponsors help cover costs, so a larger percentage of each individual's donation is directed to finding cures for kids. Some of the supporters of the foundation include Sharma Family Fund, Nidhi & Deep Kumar, Mr. and Mrs. William McCauley, IT Xchange Group, Schreiber Family Fund, Doyle Family, David Disiere among thousands of others
