why does the alkyl attacks the enolate from the si face?

Hello,
I did not understand why the alkyl attacks from the si face of the enolate, I'd say the opposite, since there's a t-butyl group. I hope you can see the pictures.

Think about the conformation of the product if the other face were alkylated.  Do you notice a particularly unfavorable interaction in the fused [5-5] system?
