Lattice Energy And Electron Affinity//
« on: May 26, 2008, 12:12:05 PM »
Queries regarding electron affinity and Lattice Energy follow...

1) Why is the first electron affinity value usually negative?

2) "With increase in covelancy in an ionic compound, its lattice energy becomes more negative." Is this statement correct, and if yes, why?

An answer ample for A'Level purposes is required...

1) I doubt it would be negative for Helium. Can you give the general chemical equation for electron affinity?
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex
