Questions on "Methods run"
« on: June 04, 2008, 02:59:44 AM »
Hi, I am applying for a analyst job for my city. On the application, it asks if I have ever used ion or liquid chromatography, and under it, it asks type of instrument, methods run, years experience, and type of laboratory.

I do not know what methods run means, can anyone elaborate?

I think they're asking how many different types of methods (analyses) you have worked on.

They're trying to separate those who have years of experience on multiple methods from those who have years of experience on single (or very few) methods.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Thank you for your response.

So they are seeing how many different types of analysis I have used during GC experiments? Like for example, calculating response factors for chromatographic peak areas and sample concentrations?

One of the experiments I performed was the separation efficiency of a gc column to find the optimum linear gas velocity. I only had to report if the three substances: hexane, toluene, and cyclohexane were resolved when mixed.

The form asks me to briefly describe these, so I am having difficulty trying to figure out what to put down. Any help is appreciated. thanks

Sorry for the double post but I could not find the edit button.

If one of you were asked to describe methods run, what would you put?
I'd like to see an example from someone if possible thanks.

I would reply that in my carreer I have performed

> 300 Quantitative Method validations (HPLC) on developmental phamaceuticals
50 -100 Quantitative Method validations (HPLC/GC/IR) on Industrial chemical products
10 -20  Quantitative Bioanalytical Method validations (LC and LC-MS-MS) on developmental phamaceuticals
< 10 Quantitative Method validations using classical techniques eg titrimetry on Industrial chemical products

And used the validated methods to support study work in the "production environment"

If I could, I would also list as many of the analytes as possible
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
