I need to know how I can tell what the products will be in reactions similar to these:
KOH + H2O <---> x + y
HSO3- + H2O <---> x + y
KCH3CO2 + H20 <----> x +y
When ever I see a compound added to water, I have no clue what the products will be.
NH4Br + LiOH
In the reaction above there are 2 compounds, I think you just have to switch the cations to get the products. Is that right?
1/ No reaction will take place, only dissociation
2/ So based on Bronsted-Lowry, what can you say about the role of hydrosulphite anion and water? What is acid and what is base
3/ Simply is : CH
3COO
- + H
2O <-->, similar to (2)
4/NH
4+ + OH
- -->
Can you tell me about the product you guess and their basicity ?
I think you'd better revise the acid-base theory of Bronsted-Lowry, it'll help you to solve the above problems easily.
