some questions for Chem2 HW (bp, fp, pp)
« on: March 10, 2009, 02:43:47 PM »
I have some questions about my hw and i would appreciate if u give me a hint, tell me if i have the right answer, or anything that will help me.

Q1:
Calculate the vapor pressure (in atm) at 90*C of a solution made by dissolving 1.00 mol of urea in 1.00 kg of water. The vapor pressure of water at 90*C is 0.692 atm.

For this question, I have no idea where to start. Do i use  :delta: P = X2*(0.692 atm) to solve for P1?
so it would follow at  :delta: P = (0.692 atm - P1) = (X2)(.692 atm). where kai = (molurea / molwater)

Q2:
A solution contains 84.0 g of a non-electrolyte solute per kilogram of water and freezes at -1.46*c. Calculate the molar mass of the solute. Kfp for water is -1.86*C/m.

:delta: Tfp = Kfp*m
-4.46*C = -1.86*c/m (m)
0.786 mol solute.

(84g sol) /(1kg of h2o)

molality = mol/kg = (0.785/0.084kg) = 9.35 mol / kg

any help from here on would be thankful.
