What is the hybridization of a methyl radical? sp2 or sp3?

What's the hybridization of a methyl carbocation?

1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.

You mean the hybridization of methyl radical is same as that of methyl carbocation?

I am not sure about the answer of my question because methyl carbanion is sp3 hybridized, and methyl radical has an unpair e-, so...

There answer is sp2, the unpair e- is occupied in unhybridized p orbital, right?

Your question is really an excellent question. Unfortunately, it does not have an easy answer unless you decide to work for it.

If you want to know the answer intimately. With paint or something else draw for me the MO of CH4 on the left and immediately to the right of it draw the MO of mehtyl carbocation.
