Friedal-Crafts Acylation
« on: July 23, 2008, 05:14:40 PM »
quick question (and need a quick answer)...for FC acylation is it possible to have an acid chloride with an aldehyde.

eg.     O                    O
         ||                   ||
   Cl - C - CH2 - CH2 - CH

THANKS!!

or how about a double bond.  I know it works for FC alkylation, can it work for this to?

eg.     O
         ||
   Cl - C - CH2 - CH2 = CH2

thanks again

For FC Acylation you need acyl halide and aluminium(3) halide like a catalyst and one H atom of the aromatic ring will be replaced. (sure there are some limitations which you can find in every intermediate organic chemistry book)
