Is the thermal degradation of all hydrocarbons a exothermic reaction?
As in:
CH
4
:rarrow:C + H
2
+ Q?

If you're talking about heating hydrocarbons intensely under oxygen deficient conditions, I believe they tend to form aromatic chains.
