I know that O and S can have double covalent bonds because they have 6 valence electrons. Does the rest of the Group 6A elements exhibit this same characteristic?
I also know that N and P can have triple covalent bonds because they have 5 valence electrons. Does the rest of the Group 5A elements exhibit this same characteristic?
And what about the Group 4A elements? Since C and Si can have single, double or triple bonds, is this the case for the rest of the Group 4A elements?
Just wondering if I can make generalizations for the groups or if it only works the smaller sized atoms of each group.
Thanks!!
