Determining reactants of an Oxidation reaction
« on: September 29, 2008, 03:22:24 PM »
This is a fairly odd question. I had been doing some fairly simple experiments on oxidation involving hydrogen peroxide and Iron in class. On the way home from this lab, I noticed a random about .5 cm radius rod of a silvery metal. It was lightweight, and I assumed it was some kind of aluminum. I decided to test it's oxidation with a little bit of Hydrogen Peroxide I had at home. When it was tested, it formed fizzed, and after it dried formed a white powdery substance. I was trying to figure out what it is. Would it be some form of aluminum oxide, or is there some other common metal that oxides to create a white powdery substance. Thanks for your help.

IMHO not enough info for any reasonable guesses.
