Organic Chemistry Test Review Questions
« on: October 03, 2008, 07:36:49 PM »
So I am doing my review and I have a few questions... So of the questions just ask you to name the functional group, but I want to name the whole molecule for the sake of practice, so I don't have answers to those, and for certain ones I am having a hard time confirming.

Anyways, there is a hexagon, the left side had a double bond, but 2 Carbons away is an NH group... The parent group is an -amine, and the molecule is: cyclo-3-hexene-1-amine ... Correct?

Then there is this other one: (going left to right on the picture)

A chlorine ion attached to the bottom of a phenyl molecule, and two Carbons up on the phenyl, it is attached to a propanamide and then the double bonded O comes, then the NH, then an ethyl group.... My guess on the name: N-ethyl-3-chloro-3-phenyl-propanamide

Then: Our answers tell us Phenol is a first degree alcohol... Isn't it second? It is attached to a carbon that makes bonds with 2 other carbons.

for the first one (cyclohexene) the double bond gets first priority so it wouldn't have a number it would probably be #-substituent-cyclohexene
