Calculating ratio of effusion rate between two gasses?
« on: October 05, 2008, 01:29:43 PM »
Here's the problem:

Calculate the ratio of effusion rates for Ar and Kr.

rate (Ar) / rate (Kr) = ?

I suspect it has someting to do with the average velocity formula v=square root of 3RT/M, but i'm not sure where to start.

The problem doesnt say anything about temperature.  Do I just assume 273 Kelvin?

I tried it with 273 K and got the right answer.  As always, thanks for the help.   :)

Um, if you do it right, temperature cancels out...
