Making quantum dot films
« on: October 09, 2008, 10:05:10 PM »
As part of my study, I have to design an undergrad lab to make CdSe quantum dots and cast them in a chitosan film. I have found plenty of methods for making quantum dots easily enough, but my problem is the chitosan film. A bit of a search tells me that it is derived from the shells of crabs and other sea creatures, and I have found a couple of articles that use chitosan films for quantum dots but they would not work with my method. I already have a way to make quantum dots, so I need a few steps on how to get them in a chitosan film once they are made, rather than integrating the Cd into the chitosan film then making the quantum dots in it.

My topic coordinator suggested I look in the Journal of Chemical Education, but that has a few articles on quantum dots but nothing I could find on chitosan films despite what he thought. I've hit a bit of a dead end.

Any idea where I can find a bit of info about how to work with it and get quantum dots into it?
