Normality & grams of ion

Does one need to account for the percent of an element in a molecule when converting normality to grams?  Do you use the equivalent weight of chlorine (35.46) or HCl (36.46).  I am just learning this and am trying to get a better understanding of how to manipulate the concept.

eg:

20g 0.1N HCL.  How many g of Cl are there?  Do you need to work with the fact that HCl is 97% Cl or just use the equivalents and g/mole?

For a monoprotic acid like HCl 1M is equivalent to 1N (1M HCl contains 1M H+)
For a diprotic acid like H2SO4 1M is equivalent to 2N (1M H2SO4 contains 2M H+)
For a triprotic acid like H3PO4 1M is equivalent to 3N (1M H3PO4 contains 3M H+)

If you know the relationship the problem is simple.
