reaction mechanism of ethanoic acid and Magnesium! *delete me*

a) I react dilute ethanoic acid with magnesium ribbon, but I'm not sure about the mechnism behind this reaction...

which one makes more sense?

1. Magnesium react with hydrogen ion

or

2. Mgnesium react with C2H3O2-

Hmmm...tricky...  OK, try this.  Write out both reactions, and lets see some guesses for products.  Then, we'll try to see what products are more plausible.

sorry, in my question I meant to ask if the magnesium react with H+

OR

react directly with 2C2H3O2H

here's the equation....

Mg(s) + 2H+(aq) —> Mg2+(aq) + H2(g)

or

Mg(s) +2C2H3O2H(aq) --> Mg 2+ (aq) + C2H3O2-(aq) + H2(g)
