Chem problem
« on: November 22, 2008, 08:44:25 AM »
What is the equation for this question.

A student carries out a test to show that a solution of hydrogen chloride contains chloride ions. First she adds dilute nitric acid then silver nitrate.

iii) Complete the equation to show the reaction which occurs.

…..+ HCl to …..+…..?

Any help would appreciated.

Have you recently studied the solubility rules for common ions?  That's a good hint to help you start the problem.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Dear CCMM;

Solve your problem step by step!

As a first step try to complete the left side of the reaction:
What (the formulas please) did the student add to the solution?
If you don’t know the formulas, a fast search in the Internet will be helpfully!
(Think about, that all are aqueous solutions!)

I hope this will be helpful for starting!

Good Luck!
