Another stereoisomer question
« on: December 01, 2008, 09:30:37 AM »
Question) The reaction of molecular chlorine(cl2) with an excess of (R)-CH3CHClCH2CH2CH3 will produce _______ products, including stereoisomers.

Would it be 7?

Also, how many of the products from that reaction will be optically active?

I would assume it's and hv radical chlorination.  Have seen this type of question multiple times in the alkyl halide chapter.

Your initial guess was 7.  What was your reasoning for your guess?
