Determining the frequencies of a triatomic molecule
« on: December 05, 2008, 08:53:44 PM »
with the given two steching modes force constants...the molecule is N-N-O+ I know if it was diatomic I would use hookes law but I'm not sure what equation to use for triatomic

it's the same idea. just with reduced mass instead of mass. you are talking about the force constants of the modes and not just of the two bonds, right?

did you look at this: http://farside.ph.utexas.edu/teaching/336k/lectures/node115.html
it seems that you could do it in a similar way for NNO
