Reaction Mechanism
« on: December 04, 2008, 12:27:26 AM »
Hi,

I just been assigned this problem...which I think is beyond the scope of my course...so Im trying to get some help here.

I have to draw...well, first figure out...the mechanism for the following reaction...the only hint we got is that it is in six steps...

I have only take one quarter of organic chem and the only reactions we learned are SN1/SN2/E1/E2/Williamson...so I have no idea where to start...I appreciate any help or directing me to resources/books/websites that may help....

Thanks

The product should also include "Other Products" and this is supposed to be a 6 step mechanism.

Is this all you have? No other conditions, reagents etc.?

I think I recognise what's going on (having spent a few months a year or so ago next to someone who did very similar chemistry), but I'm certain there's more to the reaction than first meets the eye....

Oh we are told that the solvent is dimethoxyethane, not water...and that the solvent does not appear in the mechanism.

On the product side, it also says +OTHER PRODUCTS....that didnt copy with the picture for some reason.

Perhaps have a search for nitrite and aniline reactions, or similar?
