Why do the elements magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium all undergo similar reactions?

the only thing i can think of is maybe there very close among eachother in the periodic table...

if anyone can add anything, i'll highly appreciate it.

They are in the same group (vertical column). All elements in the same group, sometimes reffered to as a family, react in a similar fashion. All of those elements have the same number of valence electrons. There are also other elements in the 2nd group that react similarly.
