Hello
Is their a pattern between the number of valence electrons and whether not electrons are gained or lost?
Thank you

For non-transition metals (so elements in the s or p block), *typically* those that have 4 or less valence electrons will lose electrons, while those that have 5 or more, will gain them. This isn't always the case, but this is a somewhat trend.
