Salbutamol - a few questions
« on: March 08, 2009, 02:11:18 PM »
Hi, I would appreciate some advice on a project I'm currently doing. I've still got a couple of weeks in which to complete it, its a research project however I'm having trouble finding the relevant information for these points.

Salbutamol:
1. Outline of manufacturing steps
2. Types of reaction
3. Details of solvents and catalysts used - (I have a sheet telling me the solvents but not the catalysts) :-\
4. Separation of products - Filtering and distillation (Are there any others I should be thinking of?)
5. Cost of raw materials
6. Ways of reducing the cost of the materials

Apologies for posting so many questions at once, but it would be of great help if someone could advise or point me towards relevant scientific websites. :)

Have you tried library? You know, large room, plenty of books on the walls?

Have you tried Google? You know, the search engine?

Have you tried wikipedia? You know, people edited encyclopedia on the web, it often contains links to original papers.

Have you tried anything?

Yes I have tried all of them. ::) I only came here to ask for some help on something I'm finding difficult, not to be patronised. No worries I'll try someplace else. :-\

Googled for "salbutamol synthesis", first hit:

http://www.ch.ic.ac.uk/local/projects/j_hettich/salbutamol/noframes/nfsynthesis.html

lists several possible routes. Third link:

probaby contains even more answers. It took me about 20 seconds. I find it hard to believe you have not found anything.
