Could optical anisotropic behaviour which is a propierty of say liquid crystals (it rotates plane polarised light and so can be seen  under polarisation microscope), be differed from a chiral substance (which also rotates plane polarised light) in a polarimeter? in both cases we would see rotation of plane polarised light...
