Question on photon detector.
« on: May 09, 2009, 09:11:11 AM »
Dear all,

I've been doing analytical chemistry on the topic spectrophotometry.
I want to know whether phototube is used for UV or IR spectroscopy as the detector.
Thanks.

Dear o0CY0o;

IMHO:  It seems that beside other disadvantages phototubes (PT) are much more energy dispersive detectors as photomultipliers (PM). That’s why it is more difficult to amplify the small current of a PT in an adequate/reliable/usable way.

Good Luck!
