Hey everyone.
Next semester i will be doing a unit on organic chemistry (only a first year undergrad unit) and am wanting to get a head start while i am on holidays. I currently do not own any organic chemistry textbooks, just a few general chemistry books with fairly brief (too brief) introductions to organic chem, so id like to purchase something more in depth.
Last semester, the textbook used was Brown's "Introduction to Organic Chemistry" 3rd edition, however the person coordinating the unit this upcoming semester has changed, so the textbook may very well change.
I dont mind if i end up needing to buy a second textbook later on, since i always find it useful to be able to use a second text for concepts i have trouble with, so i am just looking for something to buy now, and if it happens to be the unit text, then great, but if not then ill still be happy to buy another.
Anyways, so its basically a decision between Brown's intro to organic chem, or McMurry's Organic Chemistry. Does anybody have anything to say in comparing the two? Does one stand out as a much better text than the other, or are they both fairly decent textbooks?
Also, what is the difference between McMurry's "Organic Chemistry" and his "Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry"?
Thanks,
Daniel.
