Evaporation of solvent
« on: July 09, 2009, 01:51:55 PM »
Hi!  I hope I got the right forum.  I am working on an experiment where I am adding acetone drop wise to a heated solution.  But my acetone is evaporating.  I am using a regular 250 ml beaker heated to 40 degrees C.  Why is the acetone evaporating so fast and how can I stop it?  Am I using the wrong glassware or something? The instructions don't give enough info.  I know it must be something obvious but I am too embarrassed to ask for help.

High vapor pressure.  We use acetone to clean glassware because it carries off the water and evaporates quickly, leave it anhydrous.
