Hey everyone,
First off I'd just like to say that science is not my thing, so let's get that out of the way first.
I'm looking for some information about polypropylene. I've done some research on the internet and found that polypropylene seems to be one of the safer plastics out there. I'm wondering about the potential toxicity of PP. Namely, the toxicity of fumes should it be heated.
The reason I'm asking is because a while ago I accidentally inhaled a large amount of smoke and fumes from a gatorade cap that had caught on fire in my apartment. I know that inhalation of plastic fumes is bad in any case, which is why I'm a bit worried. I called gatorade and they said their caps were made of polypropylene. That eased my mind a little bit because it's not PVC. In doing more research online, I've found conflicting answers about what additives might be included in the polypropylene caps.
Does anyone know or care to guess if the cap contained BPA, phthalates or any other seriously deadly toxic substance? I'm kind of at a dead end on researching over the internet, so I figured I'd come here to see what kind of info I might be able to get from the chemistry experts.
If this is supposed to be in another forum, I apologize. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me.
