A metal nitrate reacts with KI to give a black precipitate, which on addition of excess of KI converts into orange colour solution. Identify cation

Completely sure, BiI3 - black insoluble, K[BiI4] - orange soluble

I confirm what bartek wrote. The book: Treadwell - "Analytical Chemistry" Vol 1, pag. 213, says so:
