For the first reaction, acetate acts as a base. Do you have an idea of the reactivity of 2-bromobutane?

In the second reaction, mercury indeed adds to the double bond to form a mercurinium ion. However, in your reaction mixture, there is no water present, but methanol can react in the same way. Continue from there.

Well... just tell us what you think might happen. Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, but you should really try it yourself. As I told you, acetate acts as a base. What do bases commonly do?
