What's the name of this special carbon atom?

Hello everyone,
If i remember correctly, there is a special name given to this carbon atom since it is next to the functional group OH. Does anyone know what is it called?

well as i know it's called carbinol carbon atom for sure, but as i think it is also considered as an alpha carbon upon a reaction where we're going to clarily the major product..
