HCL reaction to quartz and single crystal metal

I have a question about the reactivity of a 32% solution of HCL with two substances. I want to know which will react faster qualitatevly (days/hours etc...), and what the reaction will look like.

I have a fine grain powder of quartz crystal, and a solid block of single crystal nickel alloy with intricate features. What is the timeframe and reaction to HCl?

I would guess that the quartz is almost completely inert to hydrochloric acid (HCl is stored in glass which is essentially silicon dioxide).  The reactivity of nickel will be dependent on the alloy.  Monel, which is a copper/nickel alloy, is specified for usage as packing in distillation towers with moderate HCl exposure.  However, we have seen degradation from HCl vapor forming mostly nickel chlorides (determined by XRF and ICP).
