Extraction
« on: September 24, 2009, 07:11:47 PM »
Given that the solubility of ethyl alcohol in water is miscible.
Could you use extraction to separate ethyl alcohol from benzoic acid? Why or why not?

Thanks!

We ask that you attempt to answer homework questions on your own and show your attempts before requesting help. If you have no idea, please state that, so we can give you a nudge in the right direction.

When doing an extraction (in this case, of a two component solution), you want one component to be soluble in the extracting solvent and the other insoluble. You know the solubility of ethanol in water, so what else do you need to look up?
