Oxidation Reduction Reactions
« on: October 19, 2009, 01:28:18 AM »
Specify if the following are oxidation-reduction reactions and identify the oxidizing agent, reducing agent, substance being oxidized and substance being reduced.

a. HCl(g) + NH3(g) => NH4Cl(s)
I think it's an ox-red reaction and the reducing agent/substance oxidized is N but I'm not sure and I don't know the oxidizing agent/substance reduced.

c. SiCl4(l) + 2H2O(l) => 4HCl(aq) + SiO2(s)
From what I can tell it's not an ox-red reaction because nothing is getting reduced or oxidized but I'm not sure...

Any help is greatly appreciated!  :)
