carbon center help...
« on: June 23, 2005, 10:49:04 PM »
Alright- so I'm working on a homework question- the goal being able to understand the problem.

Anyways, here is my question.

I need to use Lewis valence electron structure formulas to describe the carbon center in the compound represented by H3CBF4.

My question is, is this compound even structurally possible?  I realize that Boron is an exception to the octet rule, and that it can be satisfied with 3 bonds (right?).

Can anyone give me some insight? I am really struggling with this problem!

Thanks
