Hi - I am working on making a site that has four separate forums - a physics, chemistry, biology and a basics forum that contains physics, biology, chemistry, math and other tools of science for the beginner (i.e high school and college students)
It also will contain a wiki, as well as a few other pages that will have links to videos, useful webpages/websites, and
advertise science related companies for free. From the About Us page on IndieScience:
Our goals are to promote a favorable outlook of amateur scientists, encourage others to become interested in the sciences as hobby or career, give incentives for novel work, and encourage science suppliers to sell to individuals, instead of only universities or businesses. Often when society looks upon someone holding a flask with a green liquid in it that is fuming noxious red-brown vapors, they either label him as meth cook or as a terrorist. This is from ignorance and perhaps even the media. We hope that by providing a friendly and knowledgeable community, information, incentives, and sources for science related equipment, more people will become interested in the sciences and open to the idea of amateur experimentalism. By building online communities interested in the sciences, providing helpful information on simple and advanced subjects, we can reach out to the people and inspire them.
While we are still in our infancy, we hope eventually to build relationships with businesses, such as science supply houses, and the individual scientists. We plan to give business free advertisements if they are willing to sell to individual scientists or hobbyist and offer small rewards for the best scientific write-ups, experiments, and projects the individuals on these forums provide for all of us. We think this will encourage people to post high quality lab reports, and make it easier for others to learn and to be able to repeat the projects. Not only does the company and the individual benefit, but our community gets to see and learn from the write-ups from the individuals that enter to win the contests. Right now, we have only a little to offer, such as ring stands, clamps, Bunsen burners, ferrofluid, and several other related items.
Anyways, we really need help on getting a some posts to start our own little community. So if anyone is interested please help us out!
If you'd like we could make a trade of some sort for some quality posts, and helping getting us started -- check out the trade list posted on the chemistry forum:
