« on: December 01, 2009, 05:21:34 AM »
Is there any one know how to use the AgSbF6?  Is it nessesary to weight it in the glove box? How dangerous it is?
Thanks for the help, I want to use it ,but there is now glove box in my lab, I just wonder to know what will it happen if I do not weight in the glove box?

What does the MSDS (or equivalent) say?

I think its hygroscopicity is more of an issue than danger. At least if you are thinking about scales smaller than some 100 mg.

I did one single reaction with AgSbF6  and I did weigh it out in the air.

The reaction did work roughly in accordance with my anticipation, but the remainder AgSbF6 (I used ca 50 mg from a 1g bottle) did not look appealing to use for another experiment.

From visual inspection, AgSbF6 may well be the most hygroscopic powders I have ever worked with - it really got sticky quickly. So if I would need to use it more than just a single time - I would not handle it in the open.  "glove bag" may be a viable alternative if you don't have access to a proper glovebox:
