I've now recieved the book General Chemistry
http://www.amazon.com/General-Chemistry-Linus-Pauling/dp/0486656225/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260891432&sr=8-2
and I was surprised by the thickness..
Is this a book you read from page 1 ---> end, or do you jump from chapter to chapter?

It depends on what you want to learn. Front to back covers everything or you can also go topic to topic I guess.
