Tetraglycol Conc Testing
« on: April 02, 2010, 11:36:05 AM »
Hello All,

I am new here and wondering if I might find some help with some tetraglycol (PEGTHF) testing issues.  Sorry if this seems like a big fish for information, but I am simply a chem tech working for some R&D material scientists and have signed a very strict NDA.

So, I have been asked to test the concentration of solvated PEGTHF in a strong alkaline solution.  The problem is there are compounds in this solution that noone has or can, for that matter, identify.  I was thinking I could do a florescent visual test, since I only need to observe concentration changes to the 0.5mL / L.   Does anyone know if PEGTHF fluoresces?

I was also thinking if I increased the alkalinity of the solution the PEGTHF would become insoluble, and I could capillary tube it off.  I just have never worked this type of set-up and am thinking I'll get it off and then what.  So any pointers would be helpful.

Thank you so much in advance for any assistance with this.  If the company I have been keeping solves this issue, the world will be a better, cleaner place.  TRUST ME!
