Question regarding sub-levels
« on: February 11, 2010, 12:25:41 AM »
I am looking over some atomic theory and am having troubles with the question: Which of the following atoms in its ground state has the greatest number of unpaired electrons: Al, Si, P or S.
I am inclined to say P, as it will have 3 electrons in its 3rd level p orbital, all of which will be unpaired. What part of this question am I getting wrong?
Thank you for your help

This thread should be discarded, I have been informed it is an error in the textbook.
