oil to non drying paste
« on: February 16, 2010, 09:41:31 PM »
hi there everyone.
i am in need of some assistance.  i need to take an essential oil found at the health food store, and mix it with some kind of non-drying paste.  it needs to be able to be squirted out of a tube in a continuous bead like silicone, but remain wet or uncured for up to a year,  like tooth paste but non-drying.  it needs to not melt or drip in the sun.  i would prefer for it to be a non toxic solution if possible.  i was wondering if there is a way to chemically thicken up the oil or if there is some kind of a paste base that could be used.  any suggestions?

i am an electrical engineer and i know i am way out of my league here.  thanks in advance.

in my opinion you need a silicone polymer with a low moluecular weigth .or a silicone oil with some aggregating compund (something sandy)

in alternative you have to find a natural grease, but it probably smells bad :D

As a suggestion, you might investigate substances called "viscosity modifiers".  They are often used in the dipped latex industry.  Usually, they are used to make a liquid thicker.

As a start, you might try investigating different grades of polyoxyethylene and various molecular weight polyethylene glycols.  There is no guarantee these will work. But it is a starting point.

Good luck.
