Hi-
I am working on an assignment where I need to draw the alternate chair molecular structure formula conformations for the product formed by the addition of bromine to 4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)cyclohexene.
I have drawn out what i think is the product of the reaction, and the chair conformers. Could somebody please tell me if I have done it right? I thought that I was on the right track, but a friend told me that the product I drew and the chairs that I drew don't match. They said the product is right, but on the chair conformations, Br 1 and the 1,1 methylethyl are both axial, while Br 2 is equitorial... and then the opposite for the flipped chair.
Am I right, or is he? and if he is right, is the product formed something different?
Thanks!
