Group Theory to determing non-zero integrals
« on: February 27, 2010, 04:59:05 PM »
Use group theory to determine whether the following integrals are non-zero (use the tables of direct products).

i) the overlap integral between a px orbital and a pz orbital in the point group C2v
ii) the overlap integral between a px orbital and a dxz orbital in the point group C3v
iii) the overlap integral between a py orbital and a dz^2 orbital in the point group Td
iv) the overlap integral between a pz orbital and a dz^2 orbital in the point group D2h

I don't even know where to start.  Please help.
