New to chemistry
« on: March 23, 2010, 08:52:14 PM »
Hi

I am just starting to teach myself chemistry, i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on where to start.
What are the first things I need to know about it?

Thanks  :)

Hi Claire,

What you need to learn depends on what area of chemistry you are interested in and how much you already know.

If you are looking for the really basic things, I recommend that you take a look at what the atom looks like (electron shells), how chemical bonds work, and state of matter. If you know these things already, move on to chemical reactions or how to make calculations on different things (concentrations, amount of substances and so on).

Why not follow the most obvious path?
