Partial pressures - Spontaneous reaction direction
« on: April 07, 2010, 07:26:18 PM »
At approx 430 degrees Celsius , K , is equal to 50 for the reaction.

A gas mixture consisting of hydrogen , iodine and hydrogen iodide at partial pressures of 0.50,0.01 and 0.50 atm respectively. Will the spontaneous reaction be from left to right or from right to left?

Could someone please explain how i am suppose to figure out the direction from the given information? I have searched everywhere in my textbook for examples but cant seem to find any. Any nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
