Density and Molar Volume
« on: April 20, 2010, 08:08:03 PM »
For some reason our teacher gave us a worksheet with problems she never taught us how to do. I have been trying to figure these out for days. Please *delete me* ???

3. The density of N2 at STP is 1.250 g/L (theoretical value).

a. On the basis of density, calculate the molar volume of nitrogen at STP (theoretical value).
b. What is the density of nitrogen gas at a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius and a pressure of 1 atm?

PV=nRT

...
at STP

What is P
What is T
What is R

What are the units of n?

what would the final units on each side of this equation be?
RT/P=V/n

you can then multiply V/n by n to get volume.

I've never seen a mole in a bag of animal crackers , but I've heard they're tasty. Can I have one please :)

The main thing is that I have no idea what "molar volume" is.

.045 n/L

At STP,
P=760 mmHg
T=273K
R=62.4
n=1.01?

Is the answer for a. 22.4L/n? If so, I'm still stumped on b.

Is b .92g/L ?

Molar volume is a volume of 1 mole.

I got 0.91 g/L.
